Killeen Texas
A total eclipse occurred in the city, the first one most likely experienced by humans in the area in roughly 500-years – About the time Christopher Columbus sailed to the Americas. The sight was surreal – early dawn – causing many lights to turn on automatically as darkness descended upon the city at about 1:36 PM local time. The total eclipse lasted around 4-minutes – giving viewers an extended view of the ‘Diamond’ effect around the moon.
Around the area that the above photo was taken, sounds of hoots and shouts of joy filled the air. While the Bell County officials had previously declared and emergency order in anticipation of the county doubling in size during the event from out of town people, the forecasted weather most likely caused many to change their plans at the last minute to other locations. Where the above photo was taken, there was only a small break in the overcast skies at the very moment the eclipse occurred, allowing for a beautiful view of the diamond around the moon. Shortly after the event, thick cloud cover arrived, preventing any time-lapse photography from occurring showing the second part of the eclipse event.
